What is the furthest you’ve traveled from home?

Cape Town, South Africa, 9341 miles away.  The 20 hour airline flight is a killer.

What is your favorite building?
I am visually awed by Beijing’s National Stadium.  The ‘Birds Nest’ grid formation using twig-like structural elements is innovative and imaginative.

What is your favorite tool?

Hitachi 10 inch Slide Compound Saw with laser marker; it will cut a compound angle on a 2 x 12 like butter.

What is your favorite sport?
Volleyball. I have been playing coed 6 person in fall and winter, and coed 4 person in spring and summer with my wife for over 20 years.  Missed a couple seasons for ACL and rotator cuff surgery but really enjoy playing.

What was your most favorite adventure?

Hiking the Inca Trail from Cusco to Machu Picchu.  This was a four day, 26 mile hike through the Andes Mountains with unforgettable views and amazing Inca ruins.

Where do you find inspiration?

Nature is a great source of inspiration.  I like designs that seek sustainable solutions by emulating nature’s time-tested ideas.

Who is your favorite cartoon character?
Woody Woodpecker is a brash, high-strung screwball and much more entertaining than SpongeBob SquarePants, ha ha ha Ha ha!

Who do you admire and why?
The 14th Dalai Lama who believes the purpose of life is to be happy.  “I try to treat whoever I meet as an old friend.  This gives me the genuine feeling of happiness.  It is the practice of compassion.”
