  • getting to know Karen...

    What is your favorite season?

Summer - because I can go camping!

What is your favorite book?
It’s a tie.  To Kill a Mockingbird; I had to read it several times to get the full meaning and symbolism from it - “It’s a sin to kill a mockingbird.” applies to so many things in life.  Then anything written by James Lee Burke. I absolutely believe he is the best writer alive today.  His first book was rejected 111 times, then when it was finally published it was nominated for a Pulitzer.

What was your favorite game as a child?
Tetherball. I was one of the playground champs and just hated it if I touched the rope and lost.

Do you have any phobias?
Exploding Biscuit Cans! I refuse to be in the same room when a can is being opened and I would certainly never open one myself.  My oldest Pekingese, Sammy, is terrified too.  If he even sees a biscuit can, boom - he’s out the dog door and hiding in the raspberry bushes!

What is your favorite architectural quote?
“Clearly, if a building is not functionally and technically in order, it isn’t architecture either, it’s just a building.” Arne Jacobsen

What do you do in your spare time?
Read.  If I don’t have time to read three or four books each week I feel seriously deprived.
